= BLACK SABBATH =

Formado na Inglaterra, em 1968, o Black Sabbath foi pioneiro de um estilo copiado por inúmeras bandas nos anos 70 e 80: guitarras pesadas misturadas a temas sobrenaturais. A formação original era: Ozzy Osbourne (vocalista), Tony Iommi (guitarrista), Geezer Butler (baixista) e Bill Ward (baterista).

O primeiro álbum, homônimo, veio em 1969 conquistando fãs por todo o Reino Unido. O sucesso mundial veio com o segundo e clássico álbum Paranoid, que rendeu um disco de platina para a banda. Master of Reality, o terceiro álbum do Black Sabbath, foi lançado em 1971 e nos anos seguintes se seguiram os álbuns, todos de uma impressionante qualidade e com vendagens altíssimas – um sucesso absoluto.

Em 1979, uma mudança: o “front man” Ozzy Osbourne deixou a banda sendo substituído por Ronnie James Dio (ex-Elf e ex-Rainbow). Dio não deixou a peteca cair, ficando na banda até 1982 e gravando 3 álbuns. Sua saída do Sabbath não foi muito amigável. Outra mudança dessa época foi a troca de baterista: sai Bill Ward e entra Vinnie Appice.

Vinnie também saiu em 82, e Bill Ward voltou ao Sabbath. O novo vocalista veio diretamente do Deep Purple: Ian Gillan, quando gravaram o álbum Born Again. Mais mudanças no Black Sabbath: Gillan sai, outros tentam assumir o posto, sem sucesso. A banda encerra suas atividades.

Em 86, Iommi lança um disco que parece anunciar a volta do Sabbath: Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi, que conta com Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple) como vocalista. Tony Martin assume o posto para as gravação de The Eternal Idol. Outros integrantes também são substituídos, e em 1992 um clássico chega às lojas: Dehumanizer, que conta com Dio novamente nos vocais.

O décimo oitavo álbum, Cross Purposes chega em 94 (qunado tocaram aqui, no Monsters). A formação da banda consistia de Tony Martin (de novo), Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi e Bobb Rondinelli na bateria. O Sabbath conquistou milhares de fãs por todo o mundo, vendeu milhões de cópias e continua sendo a lenda viva do heavy metal.

Em 1995 o Black Sabbath lançou Forbidden, com o destaque para as músicas The Illusion of Power, Get a Grip, Shaking Off The Chains e Sick and Tired. A formação da banda consistia de Tony Martin, Neil Murray (baixo), Tony Iommi e Cozy Powell (bateria). Cozzy Powel deixou a banda no meio da turnê americana e foi substituído por Bobby Rondinelli.

No ano seguinte saiu uma coletânea. Em 1998 hove uma volta da formação original, com Ozzy que resultou em Reunion, álbum ao vivo com os maiores sucessos do Sabbath e mais duas músicas inéditas gravadas em estúdio, Psycho Man e Selling my Soul. Uma turnê seguiu essa reunião e o Black Sabbath voltou a se separar.
